Christa Phipps PhD

Christa Phipps has been a counselor for 20+ years and works primarily with children as young as age 2.5, adolescents, college-aged students, couples, families, and adult women. She specializes in a variety of issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, ADHD, and behavioral issues with children. She has worked at Hickory Grove since 2005 as a professional counselor and became the Clinical Supervisor in 2012. She has also worked in inpatient settings, group homes, Intensive In-Home counseling, and other outpatient facilities. As a counselor, she is humanistic in her thinking but uses a cognitive-behavioral approach and EMDR techniques to explore and reprocess past memories and negative cognitions. She values listening with a nonjudgmental attitude to change thought patterns that are not working. When working with young children, she uses child-centered play therapy techniques to assist in building self-esteem and EMDR to assist in changing behavior. She also teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
